Capt. Tate Westbrook is a retired U.S. Navy Captain and Surface Warfare Officer whose 28-year Navy career included serving as the Captain of an Aegis Destroyer, Commodore of Destroyer Squadron 60 in Rota Spain, and Commander of Task Force 65 in Naples Italy. With over 100,000+ sea miles under his keel in ships and recreational vessels, Tate first started sailing on Tennessee lakes and earned his first USCG license, a 200-ton master near-coastal in 1994. His passion is training and education to help us be better boaters. To serve the boating community, Tate sails on his license as the owner of www.TrawlerAcademy.org providing boating education and training and also serves as the Deputy Director of Continuing Education for the Chesapeake Area Professional Captains Association (CAPCA).
Tate has been sailing, racing, and cruising the South and East Coast for decades in a variety of vessels. He and his wife currently live on the Magothy River just north of Annapolis and cruise with their dog Leo in their Legacy 42 Downeast fast trawler.
